Broadcast PR - Markettiers

I’ve had some surreal experiences in the past few years, from standing pitch side in an empty Wembley stadium on the morning of the FA Cup to eating breakfast with the jockeys on the morning of the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Thursday was up there with those more surreal moments; as I stepped aboard the ice cream van that I would be travelling in for the next few hours.

So far this year we’ve had great fun in engaging with other agencies thanks to our big Easter gift box giveaway and the inaugural markettiers’ arms pub quiz. We planned our latest bout of guerrilla fun to coincide with the first official day of summer and typically, the weather didn’t quite live up to expectations.

Armed with sprinkles, sherbet, flakes and our very own markettiers branded wafers I set off to spread a little sunshine round the agencies of Manchester. As I approached the agencies and phoned them to let them know we had a little surprise for them I was met with a number of reactions from scepticism to sheer joy. One person barely let me finish my sentence before I could hear them yelling around their office that there was free ice cream on the way!

All in all we visited seven Manchester based PR agencies, even getting down to MediaCityUK, albeit very briefly as security asked us to move (they wouldn’t take a free 99 as a bribe…).

It was a great chance for me to speak to teams from other agencies outside of the office or an organised event and I was asked a number of times when our next pub quiz was taking place. Everyone was extremely grateful, and crucially, at a time when Manchester has had a tough few weeks, we managed to spread a bit of happiness and to top it all off, the sun even crept out from behind the clouds!
