The Challenge
With e-bike and e-scooter fires up 70% in a single year, claiming lives and injuring hundreds, Electrical Safety First (ESF) wanted action. On the anniversary of a tragic fire that killed a young family, they called on the next government to prioritise new safety laws and prevent further heartbreak.
Our Strategy
We worked with ESF to make the campaign impossible to ignore. Personal stories like Scott Peden’s, who lost his family in an e-bike battery fire, brought emotional weight to interviews. Pairing Scott with ESF experts, we secured impactful media appearances across national and regional outlets. Such was the media interest that three spokespeople from the charity were needed to deliver all requested interviews.
The Results
Wall-to-wall coverage including live interviews on BBC Breakfast, ITV GMB, and BBC News. Over weeks, the story remained in focus, with pieces on BBC Morning Live, Radio 4’s The World At One and many more.
The Impact
The campaign led to real action. In July, the government announced the Product Safety and Metrology Bill to improve consumer protection and regulate unsafe goods. ESF’s work proved the power of storytelling in driving policy change.
