The Challenge
How do you make people care more about climate change? The Weather Kids campaign imagined a 2050 weather report presented by a child describing extreme heat, wildfires, and floods caused by inaction. The message was simple: act now or face this future.
Our Strategy
Working as part of The Climate Comms Taskforce, a collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and ICCO, we set about ensuring the campaign’s powerful message was seen and heard worldwide. We used broadcast content placement and bold storytelling to reach millions, encouraging everyone to take climate action now.
The Results
CNN International, The Weather Channel, CNBC, Euronews, DW, RTBF in Belgium, RTVE in Spain, RAI in Italy, Czech Public National TV, ERT in Greece, RTP in Portugal, TV4 in Sweden and RTS in Switzerland all aired the full forecast. With further international coverage achieved via global distribution by APTN, and with Sky and the BBC in the UK. The campaign sparked conversations, brought climate urgency to the spotlight, and mobilized people to act.
Recognition
The campaign’s creativity and impact earned widespread acclaim, winning the Not-for-Profit Award at the 2024 ICCO Global Awards, Best ESG Campaign at the 2024 MEPRA Awards, and three gold awards at the 2024 Anthem Awards. It also received an honorable mention at the 2024 UN SDG Action Awards (for inspiring public conversation and mobilizing action on climate change), as well as being shortlisted for the Cannes Lions Award in the SDG category. These accolades prove that bold ideas can inspire global action.
