Global coverage of record-breaking fireworks in UAE

New Year’s Eve 2017-18 was like no other for the marketttiers international team. At the stroke of midnight, we delivered a multi-camera broadcast of the breaking of the Guinness World Record for the largest firework ever launched, live from Ras al Khaimah, the UAE’s northernmost emirate.

A huge firework display took place to ring in the New Year, culminating in the firing of the World’s Largest Aerial Firework Shell in the night skies over Al Marjan Island, RAK. The shell weighed in at over 1 tonne, the weight of a small car, and measured 7 metres in length.

With a crew of over 50 people, markettiers project managed and live streamed the whole display to microsite www.raknye.com, the Visit Ras Al Khaimah, Al Marjan Island and numerous hotel Facebook pages. The live stream garnered an audience of over 10,000 people from around the world on the microsite alone.  We also enabled multiple TV channels to live stream the display, including New China TV, Ruptly TV, and RAK TV.

Within two hours of the event we had edited B-Roll for TV and a Video News Release for online media, in both English and Arabic, and were distributing the content for global coverage.

Coverage has included BBC News, BBC World TV, Russia Today, Ruptly TV and EBL News. In addition, ABC’s Ryan Seacrest’s Round the World Round Up from New York City also utilised the footage, during the ball drop in Times Square. Watch the record breaking feat here.

The team also handled full photography and social media for the event, distributing images to global media by 12.30am. The Instagram stories, Facebook and Twitter posts and animations created were viewed thousands of times within 24 hours of the event.
