Opening of London Taxi Company's new factory in Coventry

We were asked by the London Taxi Company to handle the broadcast for the opening of their £300 million new production facility in Coventry in late March 2017. The plant will be capable of building 20,000 new electric black London cabs a year, revolutionising the global taxi market.

It was a big day for LTC, with the Board from parent company, Geely, flying in from China and the UK's Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark, performing the opening ceremony.

Two weeks before the inauguration we filmed for two days at the plant, editing high quality B-Roll for TV and a video on the company's 'story so far'. At the same time our comprehensive briefing of target TV and radio outlets began.

The day before we brought in our satellite truck and radio OB unit, giving us full flexibility in our offering to the broadcast media.

On the day we were on site at 05.00.  Within little more than an hour, we had managed the LTC CEO's lives into Radio 5 Live's flagship morning business show, Wake Up To Money, and into Radio 4's Today programme, both via our OB setup. The CEO’s soundbites subsequently ran on 11 local BBC radio stations' breakfast programmes.

In the meantime, the TV coverage had begun with BBC1 Breakfast, CNBC, Deutsche Welle, BBC London, BBC Midlands Today, ITV Central, ITV London and BBC News Channel's Business Daily all covering the story, principally via our initial B-Roll.

On the ground, our highly experienced senior consultants managed the LTC CEO's, Chairman's and workers' interviews that we'd set up in advance with crews from CNN, Reuters TV, the London correspondent of China's CGTN (formerly CCTV), Germany's ZDF, the Press Association's video crew, BBC Midlands, ITV Central, BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire and the two local radio stations, Touch FM and Free Radio Coventry. In addition we ensured all crews were able to film and interview Greg Clark, the Business Secretary.

At the same time the LTC Chairman and CEO did live down-the-line interviews with BBC World TV and Sky News' Ian King via our satellite truck.

We also filmed key elements of the day and by mid-afternoon we'd distributed our new B-Roll to TV stations and our news package to all target websites.

The day finally ended over twelve hours after it had begun with a live into BBC Midlands' Today's main evening programme.

In all, 27 interviews ran across 18 TV and radio stations and with story coverage on over 30 UK TV channels and radio stations alone.

The client and broadcasters alike  were delighted: “The coverage is great ….I am especially pleased how perfectly our agencies did work together.” Geely's Global Comms Director, Frank Klass.

“Can I just say thanks for all your help today. It's been one of my most enjoyable days filming.” Mark Gough, Central TV’s long-standing Business Correspondent.
