For the eighth time in nine years*, markettiers4dc was tasked by the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) to amplify coverage around their annual Bravery Awards, where RNLI heroes are honoured with gallantry medals. Seven crew members were being awarded medals for saving lives in three separate rescues and we worked to set up TV and radio interview opportunities, raising awareness of their incredible stories.
We set up and managed the logistics for interviews taking place across three days. ITV Daybreak went live from an RNLI lifeboat station, with three of the medallists and the Devon mum they rescued on the sofa, together with footage of the rescue. We set up ITV at the Thames Lifeboat station to film the medallists for each of their regional TV news bulletins. We also set up several live and pre-recorded radio interviews from our London studios and we also fed the RNLI’s own footage of the medallists receiving their awards from The Duke of Kent to their local regional TV stations. Less than an hour later each station used it in the evening news.
In all, ITV Daybreak, ITV Wales, STV, BBC Spotlight South West and ITV Westcountry all ran comprehensive packages, while we also secured interviews with 11 radio stations including BBC Wales, Real Radio Scotland, BBC Solent, BBC Tees and BBC Cornwall.
